Ancillary Task: Album Cover pt 1

This is the first digitisation of my album cover. It is very far from completion but I wanted to get it digitised so the real developments can take place.

There are a few areas that I defiantly want to change, the typography, the eyes of the cover image and the black background.

Choosing photos for Ancillary task: Album Cover.

Here are the contacts sheets from the shoot which took place on Wednesday 11th February for the cover of my album cover for Yeezus.

From this stage I selected my favourite, and most suitable images which I could use for my album cover.

The images I have chosen are two different styles of photographs, most include movement, which are visible through long exposure, which are aesthetically pleasing and also fit the aim.

This one below is my favourite, because of the images and shape created through the long exposure
as it gives of images similar to flames, which are dark and artistic.

Below is the photo Im going to use for my cover of the album Yeezus. I will work with the image to form different images from this photo.

Ancillary Task: Album Cover Photo Shoot.

This is my plan for my shoot for the cover of my album for Yeezus

Check List:
  • Red Ski Mask
  • SD Card
  • Tripod
  • Camera (Nikon D3300)
  • Black Backdrop
  • Model
Aim: The aim of this shoot is to capture a portrait image of a male in the Red Ski Mask, who will be acting as Kanye West for the purpose of this shoot. The subject isn't important because the face, will be covered by the mask. I want a contrast of the red and black to be strong so that the mask will be dominant in the image and will stand out on the cover. The subject will be wearing a dark top so only the mask will be visible, because of the light hitting it and therefor illuminating the Red Ski Mask.

Above is a diagram showing how the subject will be set up in context to the album cover.

Ancillary Task: Final Cover Development.

This is my final development of my album cover for Yeezus by Kanye West .

Im keeping this design to a minimalistic style, as I want to show a focus on a key prop and object which is seen a number of times in my music video. It is a symbol and represents Kanye's attempt to forget whatever a face is supposed to mean, whatever a name is supposed to mean, because the focus should be on dreams and aspiration. It's  about creating and not being pin pointed as a celebrity or being restricted of reaching dreams because of race. This is the message Kanye is sending in the album Yeezus and that is why I have chosen the mask to be on the cover.
